Inspiring Stories of Resilience: Women Empowered Through Chez Doris

More than a day, more than words: support women at Chez Doris with Brume

March 8, International Women’s Day, is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s an opportunity to recognize women's achievements, reflect on gender equality, take action, and support women in meaningful ways. At Brume, we believe the best way to celebrate this day is to make a real difference in the lives of women in need. That’s why, from March 6th to March 23rd 2025, we will donate 30% of our online sales to Chez Doris, A Montreal-based community organization that helps the most vulnerable women get off the streets or avoid ending up there.

Why this initiative?

International Women’s Day is not merely a celebration, but a commemoration of the historic fight for women's rights, justice, and equality. Regrettably, even today, far too many women continue to face hardship, exclusion, and struggles to meet their basic needs. Chez Doris plays a crucial role in providing a safe refuge and support for women experiencing homelessness or other difficult circumstances. The organization offers essential daily services such as nutritious meals, secure accommodations, and access to hygiene facilities. Beyond meeting immediate needs, Chez Doris also provides personalized support, financial assistance, and reintegration programs to help women rebuild their lives. The team at Chez Doris works tirelessly to support vulnerable women facing domestic violence, mental health challenges, and financial instability, helping them regain confidence and independence.

The story of Chez Doris

Founded in 1977, Chez Doris was named after a woman named Doris who tragically lost her life to violence on the streets of Montreal. Her story became a catalyst for change, inspiring the creation of a safe space where women in vulnerable situations could find refuge, dignity, and support.

Today, Chez Doris provides tailored support to help women in Montreal—whether they are students, retirees, in precarious employment, or experiencing homelessness—find their path to lasting independence. Beyond meeting essential needs (food, clothing, hygiene, and safe shelter), the organization provides housing assistance, personalized support, financial aid, and reintegration programs. Chez Doris helps women regain stability and autonomy. Their work also includes mental health support, legal assistance, and educational programs that empower women to rebuild their lives with confidence.
