The story of Chez Doris
Founded in 1977, Chez Doris was named after a woman named Doris who tragically lost her life to violence on the streets of Montreal. Her story became a catalyst for change, inspiring the creation of a safe space where women in vulnerable situations could find refuge, dignity, and support.
Chez Doris provides tailored support to help women in Montreal, whether they are students, retirees, in precarious employment, or experiencing homelessness, find their path to lasting independence. Beyond meeting essential needs (food, clothing, hygiene, and safe shelter), the organization provides housing assistance, personalized support, financial aid, and reintegration programs. Chez Doris helps women regain stability and autonomy. Its work also extends to mental health support, legal assistance, and educational programs that empower women to rebuild their lives with confidence.
